Method
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil, ensuring that both the bottom and sides are fully covered.
- Lay saltine crackers in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet, covering the entire bottom. Break crackers into smaller pieces if needed to fill the edges.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium-high heat. Stir in the brown sugar and continue stirring until dissolved. Bring the mixture to a boil and cook for 3 minutes without stirring.
- Carefully pour the hot butter-sugar mixture evenly over the crackers. Use a spatula to ensure that all crackers are covered.
- Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 5 minutes.
- Remove the crackers from the oven and immediately sprinkle the chocolate chips over the top. Allow them to sit for 2-3 minutes, or until softened. If the chocolate doesn’t melt enough, return the sheet to the oven for a couple of minutes.
- Use a spatula or the back of a spoon to spread the melted chocolate evenly over the crackers. Add sprinkles if desired for a festive touch.
- Let the toffee cool completely (you can speed up the process by placing it in the fridge). Once cool, break the toffee into pieces and enjoy! Store in an airtight container.
Notes
Store the toffee in an airtight container to keep it fresh. Feel free to customize with different types of chocolate or toppings!
